## Questions

<!-- pulse:slot services.floor-sanding.faq -->
### Can my floor be sanded?

Solid wood, parquet and original floorboards can almost always be sanded. Engineered wood can be sanded if its hardwood top layer is thick enough. Laminate and vinyl cannot be sanded, because the surface is a printed layer. If you are not sure what you have, a photo is usually enough for us to tell.

### How much dust will there be?

Far less than you might expect. We use dust-controlled sanding equipment that collects dust as it works, so the house stays liveable. Some fine dust is unavoidable during the edges and corners, and we clean up before the finish goes on.

### Lacquer or oil, which finish should I choose?

Lacquer forms a hard protective layer and suits busy homes that want low maintenance. Oil soaks into the wood for a natural matte look and is easy to spot repair, but needs occasional re-oiling. Both come in different sheens, and either can go over a stain.

### Can you fix gaps and damaged boards?

Yes. Gaps between boards are filled, loose or damaged boards are repaired or replaced, and uneven areas are levelled before the floor is finished. We colour match repairs so they blend into the rest of the floor rather than standing out as patches.

### Do I have to move out while you sand?

Usually not. Most people stay at home; you will just need to keep off the room while the finish dries.

### Can you sand a floor that has been painted or varnished?

Yes. Old paint, varnish and finishes are sanded off as part of the job.

### Do you work on commercial floors?

Yes. We restore timber floors in homes, shops, offices and other properties.
