Questions
It can be, if you choose a water-resistant range. Standard laminate does not like standing water, so for kitchens, hallways and utility rooms we point you to boards sold as water-resistant. For bathrooms and wet rooms, a waterproof vinyl or SPC floor is usually the better choice.
Laminate gives a wood look for less money and resists scratches well, which is why families and landlords like it. Unlike solid or engineered wood it cannot be sanded and refinished, so a badly damaged board is replaced rather than repaired. If you want a floor you can renew later, look at engineered wood.
We take off skirting boards where needed and refit them once the floor is down, so the edges look finished. Doors are trimmed where the new floor sits higher than the old one, and neat transition strips go between rooms where two floors meet.
Clear small items, ornaments and anything fragile from the room, and tell us about any damp or heating pipes you know of. We move the larger furniture as part of the job, put it back when the floor is finished, and take the old flooring away.
We supply laminate, including ranges from the brands shown on this site, and fit it. If you have already bought your flooring, mention it when you ask for a quote.
Laminate resists scratches better than many real wood floors, which makes it popular in homes with pets. A board with a higher wear rating copes better with claws and busy traffic.
Many laminate ranges are approved for underfloor heating within limits set by the manufacturer. Tell us about your heating system when you ask for a quote so we can suggest a suitable board.
